Labor...Birth...and a Love Nugget

Sooo, the due date came and went...and went...and went. 2 weeks late with no signs so the midwife decided to schedule to induce by breaking my water that weekend, ugg.
It was so close to my Pawpaw's birthday, July 22nd, that I wanted to try to naturally induce myself that day so they could share the same bday! I did research, then decided to do a few of the suggested tricks...had th' sex, got an adjustment at the chiropractor, had a reflexology massage, and was even prepared to down some caster oil! Luckily I didn't have to drink the nasty, I went into labor Wednesday afternoon, right after the reflexology appointment while shopping in Walmart! No, my water didn't break in the store, haha, we finished shopping and headed home.
I planned a natural water-birth labor at Reunion Birth Center, so for the first 18 hours I stayed at home and just walked and rested through the contractions. By noon on Thursday the contractions had gotten closer and much much stronger. So I showered, shaved, did my hair & makeup and called the midwife to meet me at the birth center (what?! i needed to feel refreshed before i met my baby boy!). I labored at the birth center until late that night...walking, talking, laughing, stretching, soaking in the tub. Then they found I was stuck at 6cm for over 4 hours with no progression, at this point I was in a ton of pain and utterly exhausted from 26 hours in labor so far. They kept telling me to listen to my body and for the first time my body told me I might be too tired to finish on my own. My 'woman-power hear-me-roar strength' had gone, I wanted drugs.
Fast forward past the drugs (aka heaven) and almost 11 hours later...
Nathan and my mom helped me push, FOREVER, then Grayson finally joined us!!

He was more beautiful than I imagined! Came out eyes wide open, alert, full head of black hair, and daddy's lips! This little gift that we created together stole my heart. I will never be the same...

Our Wedding!

August 25th 2007

Thanks to my wonderful parents (and my dad's empty pockets) I had the wedding of my dreams...
Sunset, outside on a lake, deer and geese walking around, a beautiful groom, and penguin cakes! Then my groom swept me away to a surprise honeymoon (he planned all on his own!)...to Grenada...a gorgeous island at the bottom of the West Indies!
So here are a few highlights...

Love happens fast...the beginning of a beautiful "friendship"

It was March of 2003, First Baptist Church was putting on a production called Heaven's Gates & Hell's Flames, when we met by being cast opposite each other. The normally shy Nathan, approached me outside of the skit practice and we quickly became friends. The friendship grew over the next few months and despite our age difference we were perfect for each other. Best friends that fell in love!

The Proposal...

After a year of searching for 'that perfect ring' I finally found it! Because of my pickiness I had to wait extra time for my ring to be custom made, but it was oh so worth it! The day started out with a love note left on my front door, then one on my car along with a long-stem flower. I was glowing thinking about his thoughtfulness when I came into work to find yet another love note and flower on my desk! Another note on my computer told me to go to the break room fridge where I found a Starbucks Frappichino (my favorite drink!) with a little note taped on it. Later that day the biggest bouquet of flowers was delivered to me along with another love note! What a truly wonderful day Nathan made for me!! I think there couldn't possibly be more, but when I arrive home (thinking I'm alone because of no cars in the drive) I walk in to find candles leading me up the stairs. Along side the candles is a ribbon with sweet notes taped to each step and this leads me into my spare bedroom. I open the door to find an empty room with one small table in the middle covered in candles, yet another bouquet of flowers, and a white ring box. By this time I'm freaking out, wondering why he would leave the ring right out there for me to have with no proposal and for him not even to see. But then I hear something down the hall and turn to see Nathan walking towards me! He took me into the room and had me open the box....no ring! He turns me around to face him, says a ton of heartfelt beautiful things (half of which I can't remember through my crying), kneels down and pulls the vintage-style masterpiece from his pocket and says the infamous lines..."Will you marry me?"

My answer?
Of course!

So I decided to start a blog! I figured it would be nice for those that want to stay updated on our life, mostly to watch Grayson grow and have adventures!

I will warn you that I'm not a great writer, I pretty much write how I talk...open, unreserved and not following any grammar rules! I hope you n'joy this little peek into our happenings...
Much much more to come!
